On tuesday February 20th, 2007, the Garfield County Board of Comissioners voted 2 to 1 to contribute $100,000 to the Glenwood Srpings Whitewater Park. County representatives expressed their desire to remain strictly financial partners in the project. The Glenwood Springs Whitewater Park Steeering Committee is now seeking a Great Outdoors Colorado (GoCo) Grant to cover the remaining expenses for phase one of the project, scheduled to being during the winter of 2007-2008. Phase 1 will include the in-channel structure that will create the waves, and some bank improvements. A later Phase 2 will include all of the on-shore ammenties; benches, grass, sidewalks, bathroom, etc. Phase 2 will require additional funding at a later date, but has been projected to cost less than the first phase.
